Speedstream 4100 modem. Using win xp. I was browsing the internet yesterday, after I restarted the pc I was unable to connect to the internet, and been unable to ever since. Tried power cycling the modem plenty of times and still no luck. I tried to reach the modem interface but I am unable to, so I guess it is not connecting, also on the network connections, for the Local Area Connection/NIC card it says a network cable is unplugged, but really it is plugged correctly like it was before when it worked.

Also on the modem the only green lights on are the power and DSL light. The ethernet, internet, and activity lights are off. Can the modem be bad? Thats all I can think of right now. Is the connection disabled?

If so, enable it. The modem could be the problem. If the NIC is a PCI card you might try opening the case to verify it is still fully inserted into the slot. Another option would be to go to the Device Manager and uninstall it (but do not remove the card). Then hit F5 to search for new hardware. The driver should already be available to the OS and the NIC should install.Try connecting a different PC to the modem. Try hitting the reset button on the back of the modem.

If it still does not work, call for a replacement. If the modem is less than 90 days old, it will be replaced at no charge to you. They'll UPS it to you, and you have to send the old one back within 30 days, otherwise they'll charge you $100. They usually include a pre-paid UPS label.
