Wintransfer Download Music
I have upgraded to Windows 10 and have learned that the Windows Media Player, where ALL my music is, no longer allows syncing. I am somewhat old school as I use a cheap MP3 player, and my phones SD card, to listen to music so I can take it anywhere.
Itused to be so easy to transfer music, but with the upgrade I have to open the file systems and slowly copy each music file to my device. Is there ANY way to re-enable the sync function? Or which Media platform do I need now that the Media Player is obsolete:-( #bringbackwindowsmediaplayer. I was on early tech previews then just did a complete 10 upgrade from my Windows 7 dvd from basic install.Windows Media Player is in Windows 10 Pro and just to confirm before writing this, does still have the sync function for my Opal MP3 player and my HTC Windows 8x phone. Both show under the upper right corner sync tab menus 'play, burn, then sync'.If it is not showing on yours, I have no clue why. Even while under technical previews, sync was still available for my devices using Media Player.Just also had to use Windows Media Player to fix an album art problem. Album had art in folder on music backup drive, but was not displaying in Groove, Groove also has no options to location file locations or update album art from user interface other thanwhere to look for music as a whole. Couldn't even update the album info from internet using Groove.
Not happy so far. But opened Media Player then updated album art using the file location after right clicking the album cover, then copying the (jpg or png)art to the album cover.I hope you just missed it in your Windows 10 install or you have a Home Basic kinda version, might not have all features. I have Win 10 Pro and all Media Player functions are there and working. Because Groove is buy and play software only along with creatingplaylists.
This really seems to be left wide open with no true answers and I am one of those people that could really use that answer. Before I updated from windows 8.1 to windows 10, I was able to get music from my windows media player to my mp3 player with no issues.Now that I have windows ten, windows media player no longer shows that any attached devises are there and so music can not be transferred through sync. Seriously this needs to be fixed and changing around options or updating has no effect on this. I FOUND A WAY!I got it to work with the old school windows media player (WMP) that comes with Windows 10 (NOT GROOVE). Using this method requires you to erase everything and start over. This will allow for a clean set-up and avoid needing to bring things over one at atime unless you change the source file. It will automatically sync moving forward.I have a SanDisk Sansa Clip+.
Nothing fancy, but I love it. It has 8GB of internal memory. I added a 32 GB micro SD card to it. I have over 6,000 songs in my WMP library. I don't use the internal memory and only use the SD card for simplicity - there isno reason I couldn't use the internal memory. Here is what I did.1.
Plug in your device.2. Click the Sync tab in the upper right hand corner. Your device should display. Since mine has an internal memory as well as the SD card, WMP recognizes them separately.
You can toggle back and forth using the 'Next Device' hyperlink displayed below thedevice. I chose the external SD card.4. You need to format the storage space. Windows will warn you that it will erase everything during the formatting process - and it will.
You essentially have to build your library from scratch.a) Under the 'Sync' tab, there is a little arrow with a checkbox next to it. If you hover over it it will display 'Sync Options'. Click the down arrow.b) Your device should display in the dropdown menu with an arrow that allows you to expand it.c) Expand the menu.
Transfer Files
One of the options is 'Format'. Select it.d) A dialogue box will appear asking you if you really want to format the memory as everything will be erased. The memory location will be wiped clean.5. Create a file of your entire library by doing the following:a) Under the 'Library' pane on the left, click on 'Music'b) In the address bar, you will see 'LibraryMusicAll music'. Left click on 'Music'c) A new screen will appear that says 'Primary Views'. Under that, you will see a number of folders displayed.d) Select the one labeled 'Folder' and open it.e) Your entire library will combine into into one single file location containing all of your music. You'll see the file path displayed along with the number of albums, songs and hours.6.

Prepare to Synca) Left click on the file and drag it to the right pane under 'Sync list Drag items here'. WMP will then display 'Calculating' while it determines if there is enough drive space in that location.
Once this completes, press 'Start Sync'.b) WMP will show a dialogue box that indicates that when you connect the device in the future it will automatically sync. Click OK.Depending on how many songs you are bringing over, it can take a while. My 6,000+ songs took overnight to transfer.I assume you could do the same thing for video, pictures, etc., but haven't tried it.NOTE: This method will work if you have a logical file structure set up in your Music folder. By this I mean the folder only contains music files. If there are other things stored there like podcasts, audiobooks etc.
They will be treated like music and allof the files will be brought over. Sync doesn't know the difference. You need to practice good file maintenance. If you download podcasts, audiobooks, etc.
You should create new libraries for those items so they don't automatically sync when your player isplugged in. Also, when you set up sync, WMP may auto-populate certain categories that it thinks you may want. Remove the items you don't want to auto sync (Things like pictures if you only want music). That way when you connect in the future, it will not bringunwanted items over and use up your storage space.There are a few variables here and you may need to adjust your settings. I can't say if this will work for all MP3 players, so do this at your own risk. Mine is an obsolete Sansa, but it is a name brand.
Windows recognized it. Before trying this, you maywant to plug in your player and see what is displayed in Windows Explorer. If you can see it as a separate device in Explorer, I bet this will work.Trial and error my friends, trial and error.Good luck! Scott, Your #3 above is the original problem.
It seems no one is reading the first question. Windows Media player in Windows 10 is NOT reading that there is an MP3 available to even click on in the first place.
Windows Media Player doesn't KNOW THERE ISA DEVICE WAITING. So hopefully now, someone may know a FIX, or slap the media player somehow, to make it wake up to an MP3 Player waiting to connect and be loaded with music. As it stands, no matter what I do, (I have a brand new MP3 player waiting), WindowsMedia Player is blind to it. I don't want to load my phone micro card anymore manually. I don't want to kill my phone with music either.
I am also old school. Until someone has a REAL answer I will see if any other player will do the trick. It is the onlything I can think of.
